Description

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) selected 31 projects led by national laboratories, industry, and academia to accelerate research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) in domestic manufacturing. With more than $61 million in federal funding, the selectees will drive innovation to progress the next generation materials and manufacturing and related energy technologies required to strengthen America’s economic competitiveness. 

These FOA selections seek to advance development of next generation structural and functional materials for energy technology, as well as field validation and pilot demonstration of technologies for materials and manufacturing processes. 

Topic Areas

Award and cost share amounts are subject to change pending negotiations.

Topic 1: Next Generation Materials and Manufacturing
Number of Awards: 20 projects
Award Amount: $27.6 million

This topic area focuses on the cost-effective manufacturing processes and development of novel materials with improved properties such as high strength, enhanced conductivity, or high performance under extreme conditions. 

Topic 2: Secure and Sustainable Materials
Number of Awards: 4 projects
Award Amount: $10.8 million

This topic area focuses on materials RD&D to support the establishment of reuse and recycling systems with an emphasis on material and product design, recycling technology development, and reverse supply chain logistics.

Topic 3: Energy Technology Manufacturing
Number of Awards: 7 projects
Award Amount: $22.6 million

This topic area focuses on energy technology manufacturing innovation to improve performance and address technical barriers.
