Kevin served as former Chief of Staff at the U.S. Department of Energy where he directed the Office of the Secretary and helped oversee the federal agency’s $30 billion budget and 115,000-person workforce.  Prior to joining the Department of Energy he was the President of the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) for ten years, leading the science-based organization's strategic, analytical, legislative, and policy functions.  Earlier in his career, Kevin was legislative director for arms control and national security for UCS in its Washington office.  In the 1980s, he served as Legislative Director to U.S. Senator Tim Wirth (starting in the U.S. House in 1985 and moving with him to the Senate in 1986) and legislative assistant to U.S. Representative Ted Weiss of New York.  Kevin began his career as a newspaper journalist for several publications in Massachusetts, including The Berkshire Eagle in Pittsfield, MA.  Kevin holds a Bachelors of Arts from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
