RICHLAND, Wash.—The U.S. Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is expanding its partnership with North Carolina State University to establish a joint graduate research program focused on data science.
Through this new Distinguished Graduate Research Program, NC State doctoral students will work alongside PNNL scientists to solve real-world data science problems. At PNNL, researchers tackle data science challenges surrounding text analytics, streaming data, spatio-temporal analytics, and other areas.
PNNL has a history of collaboration with NC State. This new joint graduate research program will strengthen and grow the relationship, while developing the next generation of data scientists for national research laboratories.
“NC State and PNNL are already two of the nation’s leading institutions in data science,” said Tony Peurrung, deputy director for science and technology at PNNL. “This new program will better connect students and faculty at NC State with researchers and mission challenges at PNNL, resulting in gains for all of us, including a talent pipeline that leads NC State students to careers at national labs.”
This Distinguished Graduate Research Program will focus initially on data science, but both partners hope to expand the program to include additional research areas.
