The Department of Energy will hold a peer review of its Grid Modernization Initiative (GMI) projects on April 18-21, 2017 at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel in Arlington, VA.  This event will be open to the public and will provide an opportunity to learn about the current state of technology and network with energy sector stakeholders. The portfolio of over eighty Grid Modernization Laboratory Consortium (GMLC) projects across thirteen programs will be reviewed.  The comprehensive review will look at the projects at a program level, provide lessons learned, and share best practices. Twenty-nine foundational projects will be examined in the peer review process, where industry leaders will serve as objective reviewers.  A dedicated poster session will provide the opportunity for attendees to learn about the other projects in the portfolio. More information about the peer review, including the event’s agenda and details about registration and accommodations, is available HERE.

GMI represents a comprehensive DOE effort to help shape the future of our nation’s grid while ensuring that the grid is resilient and secure to withstand growing challenges. All GMI activities are guided by the Grid Modernization Multi-Year Program Plan which describes a portfolio of activities to help set the nation on a cost-effective path to a resilient, secure, sustainable, and reliable grid that is flexible enough to provide an array of emerging services while remaining affordable to consumers. As part of the GMI, the Grid Modernization Laboratory Consortium (GMLC) supports critical research and development in a number of key grid modernization areas. This effort recognizes regional differences and will strengthen regional strategies while defining a diverse and balanced national strategy. Primary funding support comes from the Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability (OE) and the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE).
