Heat pump systems use the sun's energy stored in the soil, air, and water for space heating and domestic hot water production in our buildings. This course presents the basics of how heat pump systems work and how they are being used in Alaska. The course introduces physical concepts related to harvesting shallow geothermal energy, system components, common installation configurations, cost/benefit considerations, and safety. This 1-credit course is scheduled February 6–March 6, Wednesday evening 5:20 p.m.–8:00 p.m. This class will be taught online through the BlackBoard interface.
