Susan G. Christian, Physical Security Systems Program Federal Oversight Office of the Assistant Manager for Safeguards and Security, NNSA/Nevada Field Office
How long have you been with NNSA?
14 years, June 2008
What are your job responsibilities?
I provide expert program and operational guidance and contractor oversight in protection program management, risk and vulnerability assessments, threat analysis, performance assurance, performance testing, and the integration of all Safeguards and Security disciplines.
What do you consider to be your greatest professional achievement?
Earning my college degrees. I had no financial support for college, so I joined the military for the Army College Fund. In the course of twenty years, multiple duty stations, various job assignments, seemingly endless night and weekend classes, I earned my associates, bachelor, and master’s degrees. My experience taught me to prioritize my time, build great habits and stay focused on my goals.
Do you belong to any organizations/clubs outside of work?
I’ve been an avid athlete all my life. I’ve played on volleyball, tennis, racquetball, and many intramural sports teams. Currently, I’m a pickleball enthusiast and a member of the Sun City Summerlin Pickleball Club. Staying active is important for my physical and mental health and overall quality of life.
What is an accomplishment in your life in which you take great pride?
While I originally joined the Army just for the college money, ultimately, it became my career for over 20 years. I am very proud I served my country. I am also proud to be a mom. My son Myles and I trained in Tae Kwon Do for years. One of my proudest moments is testing together for our black belts.
What are your top three goals for your NNSA career?
Do great work; visit all the NNSA sites and have new experiences.
