The Title 17 Innovative Energy Loan Guarantee Program can provide access to debt capital for U.S. energy infrastructure projects that utilize innovative technology and avoid, reduce, or sequester greenhouse gas emissions. To better address market conditions, the Department’s Loan Programs Office (LPO) has recently expanded this eligibility requirement to allow Advanced Fossil Energy Projects that avoid, reduce, or sequester greenhouse gas emissions or air pollutants.

Under this update, projects achieving reductions in air pollutants through advanced resource development or energy efficiency technologies or by using pollutant control equipment may be eligible for the $8.5 billion in loan guarantee authority available for Advanced Fossil Energy Projects.

While this update expands the universe of projects potentially eligible to access debt capital under the Title 17 Innovative Energy Loan Guarantee Program, LPO will continue to consider the greenhouse gas impacts of projects that propose to reduce air pollutants. LPO also continues to be interested in applications for advanced fossil energy projects that utilize innovative technologies to avoid, reduce, or sequester greenhouse gas emissions, as well as Advanced Nuclear Energy and Renewable Energy and Efficient Energy projects.

To request a pre-application consultation to discuss an air pollutant control project or any other energy infrastructure project, email LPO@hq.doe.gov or call 202-586-8336.
