Rounding out this year’s featured Clean Energy Champions is earth scientist Mark Severy of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Nicknamed “the Seer of Offshore Wind,” Severy supports the Wind Energy Technologies Office by working on several projects to help advance the responsible development of offshore wind energy in the country.

For example, he leads the U.S. Department of Energy’s Synthesis of Environmental Effects Research—or SEER—project, which is summarizing the current state of knowledge of how wildlife is affected by offshore wind energy. To get this information, his team studies research done at early offshore wind farms in Europe, and then translates the results to a U.S. context.
