Both the Advanced Materials & Manufacturing Office (AMMTO) and the Industrial Efficiency & Decarbonization Office (IEDO) collaborate with other U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) offices to support emerging industrial decarbonization and advanced manufacturing technologies. These programs include:

Funding Opportunities

The Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer Programs (SBIR / STTR): are competitive funding opportunities that encourage U.S.-based small businesses to engage in high-risk, innovative research and technology development with the potential for commercialization. The DOE Office of Science manages these programs and awards projects in technology areas across the department.

The Technology Commercialization Fund (TCF) is a funding opportunity designed to help commercialize energy technologies developed at DOE national laboratories. The DOE Office of Technology Transitions administers TCF, which is part of a set of initiatives to foster stronger partnerships among DOE facilities, private companies, and other entities that bring energy technologies to the marketplace.

American-Made Challenges are prize competitions funded through DOE that incentivize U.S. entrepreneurs to strengthen U.S. leadership in innovation and domestic manufacturing. These challenges seek to lower and barriers to scalability while helping connect entrepreneurs with the private sector and DOE National Laboratories.

Lab Calls offer competitive solicitations only for National Laboratories seeking multi-year funding on a particular topic or theme. Similar to the funding opportunity announcements open to the public, National Laboratories submit proposals that are then evaluated and selected by technical staff to make sure projects align with the office’s research priorities.
