Description

On August 17, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), in collaboration with the Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CyManII), announced a request for proposals for projects that enhance the cybersecurity framework within American manufacturing. This initiative seeks to combine energy-efficient practices with robust cybersecurity measures, showcasing the U.S. commitment to technological innovation and resilience in the manufacturing domain.

Topic Areas

This RFP is soliciting projects within the following three critical Industry Use Cases (IUCs):

Industrial Control Systems

Projects that explore industry-relevant security controls for the production and supply chain of Industrial Control Systems (ICS).

Secure Industrial Digitalization

Projects that will aim to help small and medium-sized manufacturing businesses secure their digital transformation by identifying and developing good digitalization practices without introducing new cyber risks.

Industrial Additive Manufacturing

Projects that will demonstrate how additive manufacturers can secure product integrity and supply chain traceability, reducing costs through security provenance tracking of their products' digital thread.

For each IUC, the RFP seeks proposals that advance capabilities across the following five technical areas:

  1. Industrial Environments: Applicants offer expertise in specific manufacturing or design settings, emphasizing sectors vital for clean energy production.
  2. Industrial Solutions: Applicants focus on creating cybersecurity tools and methods aligned with CyManII's technological vision.
  3. Industrial Integration: Applicants specialize in implementing CyManII solutions, aiming to balance business goals, decarbonization, and energy efficiency.
  4. Research: Applicants have proven expertise in CyManII-associated research domains, spanning from cybersecurity to cloud-based computing.
  5. General Capabilities: Applicants have proven expertise in CyManII-associated research domains, spanning from cybersecurity to cloud-based computing.
