Lauren, High School Student from NY, explains her research in the BNL SPARK program.

Take a moment today to meet Lauren, a Long Island high school student who is capturing and analyzing potentially world-changing data during her summer internship. Lauren shares her story and why she loves science in our video here from Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Lauren is working with experts at the Lab and other high school students who are serving as visiting researchers at the Lab’s world-renowned facilities in the Student Partnerships for Advanced Research and Knowledge (SPARK) program at the Lab this summer.

Through the SPARK program, Lauren and the other participants are working with Brookhaven National Laboratory’s National Synchrotron Light Source II, a $912 million piece of highly-specialized equipment that offers scientific and industrial researchers an array of beamlines with x-ray, ultraviolet, and infrared light to enable discoveries in clean and affordable energy (and much more!) The students conduct hypothesis-driven research working hand in hand with scientists at Brookhaven, just like Nobel Prize winners using the original National Synchrotron Light Source have done in years past.
