You won’t find another conference on energy efficiency that offers as much value than the Better Buildings Summit. Now in its fifth year, the Better Buildings Summit is a national meeting where approximately 1,000 energy efficiency professionals from multiple sectors network and share effective solutions to improve energy performance. Participants from the industrial sector can look forward to valuable technical content geared for them including a special workshop, industry-focused sessions, and networking opportunities. Specifically, U.S. manufacturers can take advantage of:

Specific Industrial Sessions

The 2017 Summit features over 125 panel sessions focused on sector-specific and cross-cutting energy efficiency topics, including 11 with direct industrial relevance spread out across all three days:

  • All Systems Go: Innovative Projects in Traditional Industrial Systems – hear from manufacturers that have improved compressed air, vacuum furnaces and industrial HVAC systems.
  • Building the Next Generation of Industrial Energy Managers – learn from former and current energy managers on lessons learned and trends that current energy management staff need to know.
  • CHP is Everywhere! Success Stories and Best Practices – hear from representatives of multiple sectors who have successfully installed CHP technologies.
  • Eureka!: Industrial Energy Technology Innovation – emerging and disruptive technologies offer great promise and in this session manufacturing peers will describe how they’ve leveraged some of these technologies.
  • Fresh Eyes: Peer-Assessed Energy Efficiency – find out how industrial and commercial end users are leveraging each other to uncover energy savings!
  • From the Manufacturing Floor to the Corner Office: How to Communicate with Management and Plant Personnel – as communication is often overlooked, but critically important, these presenters will demonstrate how to reach across the enterprise to get your message across.
  • Implementing Energy Management Systems – hear from energy management experts on new tools that can help people manage energy more effectively.
  • Making Things Smarter: Smart Manufacturing – manufacturers are now leveraging smart manufacturing technologies to improve energy consumption; come hear about how this is happening.
  • Put a Meter On It! Sub-metering Energy and Water Use – come listen to  Better Plants peers as they profile how they’ve been able to leverage sub-metering to improve energy efficiency in their organizations.
  • Renewable Energy for Clean Water: What's Not to Like? – renewable energy technologies can enhance any organization’s energy situation; hear from water and wastewater treatment professionals who are benefiting by integrating renewables into their energy portfolio.
  • The CHP Solution for Growth, Economics, and Business Continuity – learn how to leverage CHP to enhance energy security and resiliency.

Manufacturers will have exclusive access to technical experts and the National Laboratories at the Ask-an-Expert booth throughout the day on Tuesday and Wednesday. This gives Summit attendees the opportunity to ask project-specific questions and learn about broader energy performance trends in the following industrial topics: combined heat and power, process heating and waste heat recovery, pumping systems and data measurement, steam and energy assessment, and water efficiency and 50001 Ready.

Monday, the first conference day, also includes a Better Plants workshop led by Mark Johnson, the director of DOE’s Advanced Manufacturing Office. Dr. Johnson will provide an update on AMO’s activities, the broader industrial sector landscape, and field questions from the audience.

Ample Networking and Recognition Opportunities

Industrial participants will have many opportunities to network with their peers and learn about new technologies and practices to improve energy efficiency. The Better Plants workshop on Monday will also be a venue to recognize program goal achievers and present new Better Practice and Better Project awards for partners’ innovative energy efficiency work across their organizations an within individual facilities, respectively. Finally, following the workshop, there will be an industrial sector networking event at the nearby Mission restaurant.
