NEPA Office Mission
The Office of NEPA Policy and Compliance (GC-54) assists DOE program and field offices in ensuring that the Department's proposed actions comply with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and related environmental review requirements (e.g., National Historic Preservation Act, Endangered Species Act) that are necessary prior to project implementation. The NEPA Office maintains NEPA expertise to support activities covering nearly every facet of the Department’s diverse and complex operations.
NEPA: Better Information, Better Decisions. The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requires Federal agencies, including the Department of Energy, to consider the environmental effects of their proposed actions in their decision-making processes and inform and engage the public in those processes.
