DOE Direct Loan to A123 Systems for Construction and Leasing of Facilities for Vertically Integrated Mass Production of Automotive Class Lithium-Ion Batteries near Detroit, Michigan

Based on DOE/EA-1690, DOE issued a finding of no significant impact for a proposal to provide a federal loan pursuant to Section 136 of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 and a federal grant to A123 Systems, Inc. to support battery manufacturing operations for hybrid electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles at three sites in the Detroit, Michigan metropolitan area. The proposal included the construction of one new building and the addition of modifications and ancillary exterior structures (e.g., tankage and pollution control equipment) to existing buildings.
