    Announced on November 30 by Deputy Assistant Secretary for Transportation Reuben Sarkar at the Zero Emissions Bus Workshop in London, FCTO has released a new report showing that the average fuel economy of fuel cell electric buses from three fleets is ~6 miles per diesel gallon equivalent or DGE, 1.4 times higher than conventional diesel buses (~4.2 miles per DGE) from one fleet and up to 1.9 times higher than compressed natural gas buses (~3.3 miles per DGE) in another fleet.

    U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) researchers have won 32 of the 100 awards given out this year by R&D Magazine, including a project from Argonne National Laboratory focused on fuel cell catalysts. DOE also received a special recognition award for the most outstanding technology developments with promising commercial potential.

    Small businesses in the clean-energy sector have another opportunity to submit Requests for Assistance for technical assistance from U.S. Department of Energy labs through the Small Business Vouchers Pilot. The pilot, part of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's Lab Impact portfolio, aims to help small businesses bring next-generation clean energy technologies to market faster by giving them access to expertise and tools at national labs.

    The U.S. Department of Energy has announced the 2017 Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) Phase I Release 2 topics, including three subtopics focused on hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. The fuel cell subtopics include innovative materials for bipolar plates, liquid organic hydrogen carriers, and emergency hydrogen refuelers.

    The Fuel Cell Technologies Office (FCTO) will present a live webinar entitled "FCTO Lab Consortia Overview: ElectroCat and HyMARC" on Tuesday, November 8, from 12 to 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. This webinar will provide a summary of the organization of these consortia, their current/planned scientific activities and capabilities, and the role of individual projects selected to work with these consortia through the upcoming FY17 funding opportunity announcement.

    The Fuel Cell Technologies Office will present a live webinar entitled "Energy Materials Network (EMN) Lab Consortia Overview" on Monday, November 7, from 12 to 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. This webinar will provide an overview of DOE's newly launched Energy Materials Network and discuss how the EMN consortia operate and how they are being integrated into funding opportunity announcements intended for FY17.
