In 2018, DOE established the position of Chief Commercialization Officer to lead the Department’s commercialization and technology transfer activities across its program offices, 17 National Laboratories and other research and production facilities across the country. The Chief Commercialization Officer advocates and advances clear pathways for the commercialization of innovative technologies, ensuring that the taxpayer-funded discoveries happening at our world-class facilities are making their way out of the labs and into the commercial marketplace.

The Chief Commercialization Officer serves as Director of the Office of Technology Transitions, whose responsibilities include oversight of the Technology Commercialization Fund, Technology Transfer Working Group, and the coordination of technology transfer activities and best practices across the DOE complex.
