The Weatherization Assistance Program is the nation's largest whole-house energy efficiency retrofit program. As part of the Department of Energy's Efficiency and Renewables Office the program connects President Biden's clean energy priorities, the work of the Department of Energy as a whole, and the imperatives of environmental and economic justice.

Started in 1976, the program has weatherized more than seven million homes across America. Every year the program provides energy-efficient retrofits to approximately 35,000 low-income families in every county and five US territories. These retrofits save households an average of $283.00 on their energy bills each year. And homeowners also often see significant health and safety benefits, such as improved indoor air quality. The program creates and supports bout 8500 jobs that sustain American families and launch communicates into an economically and environmentally resilient future. With energy costs consuming up to 30 percent of total annual income of those living below the poverty line, the need for programs like the Weatherization Assistance Program becomes clear.
