Veterans Day honors the brave men and women who have defended our freedom and protected our way of life as members of the armed forces. On this day, we also take time to recognize the families whose support made their loved ones’ service possible. They too have made many sacrifices on behalf of our great Country.
Each year, more than 200,000 members of our military services transition to civilian life. I am proud the NNSA plays a role in making these transitions successful by actively recruiting and hiring veterans, who make up 40 percent of our Federal workforce.
Join me in thanking the combined 42 million American veterans, active duty, and reserve service members who chose to preserve the freedom of our great Nation. I would also like to thank those veterans who continue their public service by helping NNSA achieve its vital and enduring national security missions. I appreciate you and the sacrifices you have made for our Country.
Abraham Lincoln once said, “Honor to the soldier and sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country’s cause. Honor, also, to the citizen who cares for his brother and serves, as he best can, the same cause.”
Thank you to our veterans and enjoy your extended weekend.
