Magnolia LNG Production Capacity Amendment

EPA announced the availability of a draft supplemental EIS prepared by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to evaluate the potential environmental impacts of a proposal to increase the production capacity for the Magnolia LNG Project in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana. Magnolia LNG requested authorization to increase capacity from the 8 million tons per annum (MTPA) previously authorized by FERC to 8.8 MTPA.

DOE is a cooperating agency in preparing the SEIS (DOE/EIS-0498-S1). DOE, Office of Fossil Energy, has an obligation under Section 3 of the Natural Gas Act to authorize the import and export of natural gas, including LNG, unless it finds that the import or export is not consistent with the public interest. (DOE's participation as a cooperating agency and assignment of a document number are not a commitment that DOE will adopt or supplement the EIS.)
