The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide federal funding to Washington State University (WSU) to evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of using hydro-processed esters and fatty acids (HEFA) facilities for co-processing of refined pyrolysis oils or hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) oils with yellow greases. Biooils and upgraded hydrocarbon products (e.g. jet fuel) would be processed under conditions comparable to those used in existing commercial HEFA units. The project would be completed over two Budget Periods (BPs), with a Go/No-Go Decision Point in between each BP.
