The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) proposes various repairs and replacement of building systems to maintain the existing roofing system, life safety upgrades, increase building daylighting, and the replacement of a HVAC unit that has reached the end of its useful life on Building 251 at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s (NREL’s) National Wind Technology Center (NWTC) located in Golden, Colorado.
Specifically, the proposed project at Building 251 includes:
• Repair of the roof walkway, gravel stops, sheet metal flashing and ballast.
• Removal, replacement and recertification of the lightning protection system components.
• Installation of fall protection devices, such as guardrails, lifelines, ladder anchors, etc.
• Removal and replacement of the access ladder and cage assembly leading to the high bay roof.
• Removal and replacement six existing skylights on roof level 1.
• Installation of nine solatubes in the roof over the main conference room area.
• Removal, modification, and reinstallation of the 7 solatubes on roof level 1.
• Installation of new roof access ladders.
• Repaint the natural gas line and supports.
• Removal and replacement of the roof access hatch.
• Installation of walkway mats to all equipment, doors, ladders and access points on the roof.
• Replace HVAC unit RTU-1 with new roof top HVAC unit.
