Funding will support the project team's small-scale, research and development activities to develop a hybrid concentrated solar power/concentrated photovoltaic power-thermal receiver system. Specifically, the project team will: (1) develop cost-optimized concentrated photovoltaic power-thermal receiver; (2) design and fabricate primary mirror system; (3) develop filter with optimized cutoff wavelengths and angular response; (4) optimize photovoltaic cells; and (5) design, fabricate, and test hybrid concentrated photovoltaic power-concentrated solar power retrofit prototype. If successful, the system will combine the low-cost structure of photovoltaic with the storage capabilities of concentrated solar power to provide low-cost on-demand solar power.
