The Metropolitan Council Environmental Services is proposing to use $200,000 in State Energy Program funding for the installation of a 750 kilowatt non-condensing steam turbine generator in the Solids Management Building at the Metro Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). Currently, the steam is sent to either an existing 4 megawatt condensing steam turbine generator or a set of pressure reducing valves. The pressure drop results in a loss of energy across the pressure reducing valves. Installation of the 750 kilowatt non-condensing steam turbine generator will allow use of the energy released due to the steam pressure drop.
