The Public and Intergovernmental Engagement (PIE) Team was created by the Department of Energy Office of Legacy Management (LM) to support the organization’s strategic goal of engaging the public, governments, and interested parties.

Mission

To communicate information about former nuclear defense sites to all external and internal stakeholders.

Vision

The Public Intergovernmental Engagement (PIE) Team is dedicated to communicating accurate and timely information to communities impacted by former nuclear defense sites in order to protect human health and the environment. We are committed to transparency, integrity, and empathy in all our work. People matter first to the PIE Team. Our highest priorities are collaborating effectively and building trust with diverse communities, tribal nations, and local and state governments. The PIE Team honors cultural heritage and cultivates and nurtures relationships through engagement, education, and outreach. We are the communication bridge between LM and the public.

The PIE Team communicates and engages with local communities, state and local governments, and tribal nations in a variety of ways, including:

  • Public meetings
  • Fact sheets
  • Stakeholder surveys
