The Department of Energy (DOE) is committed to hiring veterans. Veterans have demonstrated leadership ability along with the skills and competencies the Department needs to sustain a competitive edge. More veterans work for the Federal government now than at any other time in the past 35 years. This progress is attributed, in part, to the establishment of annual hiring goals for Federal agencies. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2020, 29% of all new hires were veterans. Of those hires, DOE achieved 26% against the goal of 25% for hires of preference veterans, and 18.9% against the goal of 11% for hires of veterans with disabilities.

DOE remains steadfast in our commitment to hire veterans, and to elevate the Department's position as a world-class, 21st Century employer. In the 2020 Best of the Best evaluations by the U.S. Veterans Magazine, DOE was listed among Top Government and Law Enforcement Agencies.
