On July 20, 2022, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will convene the first-ever Carbon Negative Shot Summit to advance the development of the emerging and necessary carbon dioxide removal industry.

Carbon Negative Shot, the third target within DOE’s Energy Earthshots Initiative, is an all-hands-on-deck call for innovation in carbon dioxide removal pathways that will capture carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere and store it at gigaton scales for less than $100/net metric ton of CO2-equivalent by 2032.

This ambitious goal—and the opportunity we have to invest in technology deployment and business model development, justice and equity, environmental protection, and workforce development—requires that this Summit bring together a diverse set of individuals and groups.

Here is what you need to know (in other words, the five W’s!) about DOE’s Carbon Negative Shot Summit:

  • Who: Speakers at the Summit will include Brad Crabtree, Assistant Secretary of DOE’s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management; Shalanda Baker, Director of DOE’s Office of Economic Impact and Diversity; Dr. Clea Kloster, Partner and the Head of Science at Lowercarbon Capital; and Jason Walsh, Executive Director of BlueGreen Alliance. (Check out the agenda, including the complete speaker list).

  • What: The Carbon Negative Shot Summit will convene industry innovators, environmental and climate justice organizations, labor unions, academia, government leaders, and many more to discuss the development of commercially viable carbon dioxide removal in the United States.

  • Where: The event is fully virtual, so join us from home, the office, or anywhere that is convenient for you!

  • When: Wednesday, July 20, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. EDT

  • Why: As we work to increase collaboration and advance the deployment of a commercially viable, just, and sustainable carbon dioxide removal industry in the United States, we need to have “an all-hands-on-deck” approach to tackle the climate crisis and help the nation achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

Join us on July 20 to learn more about advancing this climate-critical carbon dioxide removal industry. (*Registration is Required*)
