Mark Ackiewicz is the Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Carbon Management in the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM). He oversees FECM’s Office of Carbon Management, which encompasses a broad portfolio that includes carbon capture, carbon dioxide removal, carbon dioxide conversion into products, reliable carbon dioxide transport and storage, and hydrogen production coupled with carbon management. 

In this role, Mark sets the strategic direction for the Office, and leads a team that administers the programs, including technology research, development, and demonstration; analysis; domestic and international engagement; and intergovernmental collaboration. 

Mark has over 25 years of experience in the government and private sector, working on technology development, innovation, and product commercialization, and building domestic and international partnerships. He is a 2016-2017 White House Leadership Fellow alumnus, and has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, and a Master’s in Engineering Management from George Washington University.
