On December 14, 2018, pursuant to section 3 of the Natural Gas Act, DOE issued an order authorizing Mexico Pacific Limited LLC (MPL) to export U.S.-sourced natural gas by pipeline to Mexico for liquefaction and re-export in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to countries that do not have a free trade agreement (FTA) with the United States.  MPL is authorized to export LNG up to the equivalent of 621 billion cubic feet (Bcf) per year (1.7 Bcf/day) of natural gas to any non-FTA country not prohibited by U.S. law or policy from the proposed Mexico Pacific Limited LNG production and storage facility to be located in the State of Sonora, Mexico.
