The Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy (FE) is now accepting applications for the 2018 Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF) Program.

For more than 20 years, the MLEF program has provided underrepresented students the opportunity to gain hands-on research experience with FE. The fellowship experience strengthens the channel of future science, engineering, technology, and mathematics (STEM) professionals. The program has mentored several hundred of the best and brightest students across the country interested in pursuing a STEM career.

Candidates selected for the program participate in a 10-week fellowship where they train under the mentorship of program officials and scientists at DOE Headquarters or in the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL).  The MLEF program is open to all students who meet the following application requirements:

• At least 18 years of age at the time of application

• A United States citizen

• A cumulative GPA of at least 3.0

• Currently enrolled full-time as a degree-seeking student in a STEM program at an accredited college or university at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral level. (Students pursuing an Associate’s degree are eligible to apply if transferring to pursue a Bachelor’s degree for the fall 2018).

• At least a college sophomore at the time of application.
