We are accepting applications for the Expanding Your Horizons Conference for the 6th-12th Grade Girls!

The San Joaquin Expanding Your Horizons (SJEYH) is an annual conference specially designed for 6th through 12th grade girls to encourage them to consider education and career options in science and mathematics. About 550 girls from the San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties attend. Girls from other school districts may also register. The EYH Student Packet provides lots of information about EYH, attending an EYH workshop, and careers in science and math.

Workshops

Girls attend three workshops that provide hands-on science- or math-related activities and enable the girls to interact with professionals and science enthusiasts. Attendance per workshop is normally limited to 20 students to keep the instruction personal and interactive.

Workshop selection is not part of registration, as we have a unique environment at University of the Pacific, where the attendees stay with one group throughout the day, and we pick their workshops. We are careful to look at their past attendance, and try not to put them in a workshop twice. However, if an attendee has asked to be grouped with other girls, or a parent chaperone asks for a specific group, they might encounter a similar workshop.

Career Fair

Occasionally we have a Career Fair in addition to their workshop selections, where girls also visit numerous career displays and are able to interact with professionals from industry, government, academia, and public service, discussing career and education choices in a friendly and relaxed environment. Career fair participants distribute brochures and freebies and may advertise their special events. The Career Fair is not offered every year.
