Shelly Wilson

Shelly Wilson is a Senior Regulatory Specialist at Longenecker & Associates. Previously, Ms. Wilson served as the Permitting and Federal Facilities Liaison for the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC).  In 2013, Ms. Wilson led and developed Permit Central, an innovative set of customer service tools including an interactive web-based questionnaire, launched by Governor Nikki Haley.  Through Permit Central, Ms. Wilson assisted hundreds of businesses and citizens each year with permit process clarity and scheduling.  Ms. Wilson worked with the South Carolina Department of Commerce and local economic developers to familiarize new and expanding industries with environmental requirements.  In 2018, Permit Central was highlighted by the United States Environmental Protection Agency Smart Sectors program as a national permitting best practice.

Ms. Wilson was also responsible for orchestrating activities involving federal facilities, such as high level waste tank closure at Savannah River Site.  In this role, Ms. Wilson developed and led the state regulatory strategy for closure of six high level waste tanks.  Ms. Wilson also maintained relationships and communication with Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the SRS Citizens Advisory Board, the SC Governor's Nuclear Advisory Council, the SRS Community Reuse Organization, the National Governors Association, environmental groups, as well as the Governor's Office, state, and federal elected representatives.  In 2016, Ms. Wilson was appointed by the Secretary of Energy to serve on the Department of Energy Environmental Management Advisory Board. 

Ms. Wilson has almost 28 years of experience with SCDHEC, finding solutions that integrate numerous program requirements and managing projects on schedule.  Ms. Wilson's other past experiences include regulation development, planning, remediation, and coordination of large multi-media permitting processes.

A lifelong resident of South Carolina, Ms. Wilson graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.  Certified as a group exercise instructor, Ms. Wilson enjoys teaching classes at the gym.  She and her husband, David, reside in Columbia and have one daughter.

Ms. Wilson was appointed to serve on the EMAB as a special Government employee to provide expert advice on environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder relations.
