Welcome to the State Energy Program Orientation and Training Modules

Welcome to the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) State Energy Program (SEP). You and your state energy office, in partnership with SEP, play a vital role in establishing plans and strategies to achieve state-led energy goals and priorities. These activities increase energy affordability, reduce carbon emissions, stimulate economic activity, promote clean energy job growth, and ensure coordinated energy-related emergency preparedness and response.

You are part of a national program comprising 50 states, five territories, and the District of Columbia, who together have received more than $550 million in formula funding since 2010 and are addressing your state's energy needs and opportunities every day. SEP supports states in their roles as decision makers and administrators for state-level programs and policies.

We hope these orientation and training modules will assist you in your new role, and we look forward to working together.

For every dollar the federal government invests in SEP, governments, businesses, and households cumulatively save $4.50 per year from reduced energy bills. Total energy savings in a typical year equal 10 million British thermal units (MMBtu)—enough energy to power 273,000 American homes for an entire year. SEP estimates that the lifetime energy cost savings through a typical year of the program equal $95 million.
