Appalachian State’s Small Wind Research and Demonstration Site, located on Beech Mountain, will be the site for a one-day, hands-on workshop on small-scale distributed wind energy.

Participants will:

  • Tour the turbines at the facility
  • Experience a crash course in distributed wind energy
  • Learn how to determine whether wind energy is a viable option
  • Install and commission a small wind turbine.

Instructor Brent Summerville is a professional engineer and holds a master’s degree in Appropriate Technology with a focus on renewable energy. In addition to housing the Small Wind Research and Demonstration Site, Appalachian State participates in DOE’s Wind for Schools project and is home to the North Carolina Wind Application Center.
