Energy-saving homes, buildings, and manufacturing

In partnership with Rutgers University and partially funded by EERE, Solidia Technologies®, a cement and concrete technology company, developed a strong and durable concrete that costs less and uses less time, energy, and water than standard concrete, using the same raw materials and equipment. Through its proprietary Low-Temperature Solidification (LTS) process, Solidia sequesters CO₂ by injecting it into concrete during manufacturing, turning CO₂ into a usable element at significantly reduced time and cost for large- and small-scale production. LTS bonds together a wide variety of natural minerals and waste products through a low-energy process and infuses them with CO₂, resulting in products with durability and mechanical performance that exceed those of Portland Cement concrete and natural stone.

Combined, Solidia Cement™ and Solidia Concrete™ reduce the carbon footprint of concrete products up to 70%. A recipient of a 2013 R&D 100 Award, Solidia Cement will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which is in line with the Administration’s Climate Action Plan, helping to leave a cleaner, more stable environment for future generations, and offering the global construction industry a profitable path to sustainability.
