National technology competitions encourage and recognize innovation in solid-state lighting products.
NEXT GENERATION LIGHTING SYSTEMS
The Next Generation Lighting Systems competition (formerly known as Next Generation Luminaires) encourages innovation and education on leading-edge LED lighting solutions. Sponsored by DOE, the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, and the International Association of Lighting Designers, the competition was revamped in 2017 to feature a tighter focus on specific lighting applications and an expanded evaluation process that involves installations in real-world settings and greater interaction among entrants, judges, and host sites. The aim of the competition is to speed the learning, feedback, and technology improvement process for next-gen lighting systems.
The L Prize® competition aims aims to spur lighting manufacturers to develop high-quality, high-efficiency solid-state lighting products that set leading-edge performance benchmarks for industry. The competition challenged industry to develop LED replacement technologies for two widely used and inefficient products: the 60W incandescent lamp and PAR38 halogen lamps. It also calls for development of a 21st Century Lamp that delivers ultra-high efficiency and performance.
