The DEIR in Lighting working group is a coalition of lighting industry thought leaders – designers, manufacturers, educators, advocates, and change makers – working collaboratively to leverage existing and new efforts to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect (DEIR) in the lighting industry. The foundation for this working group was a roundtable held in December 2021, where DOE convened more than three dozen participants from government, industry, and academia to discuss opportunities to engage and align collaborative efforts for advancing DEIR in lighting education programs, design competitions, research funding opportunities, and other pathways. Chief among the takeaways was the need for regular, ongoing meetings to delve into specific subtopics, to leverage and align efforts to create a more equitable lighting industry.
