City Energy: From Data to Decisions

A new series of city-specific fact sheets showcase how the National Renewable Energy Laboratory can assist cities through the State and Local Energy Data (SLED) Tool. Does your city want to lower its greenhouse gas emissions? Reduce local air pollution? Increase low-income household energy savings? Increase renewable energy generation or electric vehicle infrastructure?

Find a city similar to yours and see what steps you can apply to use data and analysis in your city’s energy decision making. Browse or download all the fact sheets at City Energy: From Data to Decisions. Find data for your city in the SLED City Energy Profiles.

Commercial Building Energy Benchmarking Data

While you’re at the SLED City Energy Profiles, check out the new Commercial Building Energy Benchmarking Data! Through building energy benchmarking and disclosure policies, building owners and operators can see their year-to-year energy consumption and expenditures and compare them with those from other buildings of similar characteristics. For cities and other local governments, these policies can spur energy savings actions and are an important starting point for implementing an effective energy efficiency strategy. This new Cities-LEAP tool, assembled from commercial real estate data, informs users about the composition of a city’s commercial building stock, and city-specific tradeoffs with regards to commercial building benchmarking and disclosure policies, and building characteristics.
