Steve VonVital is the Information Technology Services Office Director for the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE). For the past 23 years, he has served EERE in the Information Technology Office in many roles. These roles include  IT supervisor, IT Operations Manager, Acting Director and Director, managing the issues related to information technology. He has been responsible for five management areas: cyber security, enterprise architecture, system development, records management, and IT investment reporting.

Steve also serves as the EERE liaison for IT to the U.S. Department of Energy through the Department’s Information Management Governance Board,  the main communication mechanism for IT across the organization. As a board member, he works in concert with the Department’s Chief Information Officer to provide a common Departmental infrastructure, significant cyber security enhancements, and corporate systems based on the Department’s Corporate Systems Information Architecture. He is responsible for the operations, service and delivery of IT to assist the EERE programs in fulfilling their core missions. 

Before joining DOE, Steve worked for the “Star Wars Defense Initiative” for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency as a programmer and project manager. He was introduced to the EERE mission as a support contractor for CDSI, Inc., first as a programmer, then as the senior network systems engineer, and finally as a program manager. He entered the Federal workforce as an IT specialist in the IT office deploying new technologies. 

Steve attended the University of Southern California's Information Technology Division, Buck County Community College for Computer Programming and Novel Network Engineering School.
