The Clean Energy Manufacturing Initiative (CEMI) engages in partnerships to improve U.S. clean energy manufacturing competitiveness.

Growing U.S. clean energy manufacturing competitiveness requires an "all hands on deck" approach, with the nation's private and public sectors, universities, think tanks, and labor leaders working together to identify and commit to a path forward. Initial partnerships include:

  • Council on Competitiveness Partnership: CEMI is partnering with the Council on Competitiveness to convene the nation's private and public sector leaders in a series of successive dialogues to identify barriers to U.S. competitiveness in clean energy manufacturing, as well as solutions to overcome those barriers through public-private partnership models.
  • Department of Commerce's Manufacturing Extension Partnership: CEMI works with the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) to reach U.S. manufacturers. MEP is a nationwide network that works with small and mid-sized U.S. manufacturers to help them create and retain jobs and increase profits. MEP provides a variety of services, from innovation strategies to process improvements to green manufacturing.
  • Advanced Manufacturing National Program Office: President Obama's Advanced Manufacturing Partnership and National Science & Technology Council (NSTC) have outlined several drivers for manufacturing competitiveness and several courses of action to strengthen these drivers, and have created the interagency Advanced Manufacturing National Program Office (AMNPO) to orchestrate multi-agency action. Addressing the full suite of manufacturing competitiveness drivers will require a diverse range of resources.
