1/10

Ferrier Custom Homes built this 810-square-foot custom home in Fort Worth, Texas, to the high performance criteria of the U.S. Department of Energy Zero Energy Ready Home (ZERH) program.

2/10

Fiber-cement siding protects the sides of the compact structure.

3/10

Exterior rolling shutters on the east-facing windows allow homeowners to easily control sun exposure.

4/10

High-performance ENERGY STAR appliances save energy and water.

5/10

Stained concrete floors are low-maintenance, do not feed mold, and provide some passive solar benefit.

6/10

The compact home was constructed with structural insulated panels (SIP) for continuous thermal protection around the walls and roof.

7/10

The 10.25-inch SIP roof provides a thick layer of thermal protection (R-37) under the highly reflective Galvalume metal roof.

8/10

House wrap provides an air and water barrier around the home.

9/10

Fiber cement panels cover the compact two-story slab-on-grade structure.

10/10

A highly efficient air-source mini-split heat pump with a 20 SEER cooling efficiency and a 9.6 HSPF heating efficiency provides cooling and heating for the small home.
