Project Objective

This project will provided unbiased laboratory performance evaluation in support of commercialization activities of newly developed sorption gas-fired heat pump for water heating. The performance validation at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) provides highly credible data and access to expertise and facilities that are not available to most developers. ORNL and its partners compiled a list of existing pre-commercial gas fired heat pump products. Down-selection was conducted based on the impact of the laboratory performance evaluation on the commercialization potential. A Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) was executed between ORNL and SaltX Holding AB (SaltX) under which the heat pump was delivered to ORNL.

Project Impact

The performance evaluation provided detailed insights into the performance of the heat pump that are necessary to readying the heat pump for the next phase pf commercialization. The next phase may include field pilot.
