The objective of this project is to minimize the energy required to provide acceptable indoor air quality. High-performance homes built with tight envelopes will benefit most from this technology. Their mechanical ventilation systems dominate for energy use; as the foundation, wall, and roof work together. Smart ventilation is expected to save at least 40% on energy and peak demand. The project is seeking to create an industry partnership to commercialize the current Residential Integrated Ventilation Controller (RIVEC) and is collaborating with Building America’s research teams to improve its control algorithms.
