Presenter: Scott Horowitz, National Renewable Energy Laboratory

Development of whole-house zero energy ready solutions requires accurate models for a full range of enclosure and equipment technologies. The primary goal of this project is to provide an accurate analysis for Building America program planning, emerging technologies, and net zero energy packages for new construction and existing homes by using cost-based optimization and detailed, physics-based EnergyPlus simulations for the residential sector. The project’s objectives include improving consistency, accuracy, and data exchange in whole-house energy analysis through two primary activities: (1) residential technology modeling in EnergyPlus, and (2) an empirically based method of testing in BeOpt.
