Director, Office of Worker Safety and Health Enforcement
Robert Hailstone is the Director of the Office of Worker Safety and Health Enforcement within the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Enterprise Assessments. Mr. Hailstone is responsible for implementing the Department’s worker safety and health enforcement program. The primary goal of the worker safety and health enforcement program is to enhance and protect the safety and health of workers at DOE facilities by fostering a culture among its operating contractors that seeks to attain and sustain compliance with the DOE’s congressionally-authorized regulatory enforcement program identified in 10 C.F.R. Part 851.
Mr. Hailstone has more than 20 years of experience in developing, implementing and evaluating occupational safety, conventional explosives safety and fire protection requirements in a wide variety of mission environments. Prior to his current assignment, Mr. Hailstone served as the Chief of Occupational Safety for the Air Force Materiel Command, where he led a staff of technical experts monitoring research laboratory, explosive and high-hazard industrial operations for worker safety and health performance and compliance.
Mr. Hailstone previously served in management positions with the U.S. Air Force, Defense Contract Management Agency, Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Army, and Department of Agriculture. He also served as a paratrooper in the vaunted 82nd Airborne Division during his active duty military service.
Mr. Hailstone holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from Boston University (magna cum laude) and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree from Northeastern University.
