Director, Office of Worker Safety and Health Assessments

Charles “Chuck” Kreager is the Director of the Office of Worker Safety and Health Assessments within the Office of Enterprise Assessments (EA) at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).  Mr. Kreager is responsible for directing the conduct of analyses of occupational safety and health risks, issues and performance across the DOE complex.

For more than 25 years, Mr. Kreager has held occupational health and safety positions within the military, federal service and private sector.  Mr. Kreager began his career after being commissioned in the U.S. Navy as an Industrial Hygiene Officer.  During his active duty career, Mr. Kreager served at sea aboard the USS NIMITZ and USS FRANK CABLE.  He also served in shore assignments in Hawaii, North Carolina and Rhode Island.  After leaving active duty, Mr. Kreager joined The Dow Chemical Company as an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist and provided expertise in the field of industrial hygiene and process safety.

Mr. Kreager entered the civil service as an industrial hygienist with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at Armstrong Flight Research Center in California.  In 2015, Mr. Kreager was selected for a detail assignment as the Senior Environmental Health Officer in the Office of the Chief Health and Medical Officer (OCHMO) at NASA Headquarters and was responsible for leading OCHMO’s review teams and the revision of NASA’s Occupational Health Program procedures.  In 2017, Mr. Kreager joined EA and, in 2020, became the Director of the Office of Worker Safety and Health Assessments.

Mr. Kreager holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from the University of Minnesota.  He is a Certified Industrial Hygienist by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene and a Certified Safety Professional by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.
