Each year in March, Federal agencies take the opportunity to celebrate and highlight the extraordinary achievements and contributions of Women throughout U.S. History.

On March 29, 2022, The Department of Energy, the Office of Economic Impact and Diversity, in partnership with Professional Opportunities for Women at Energy Realized Employee Resource Group, presented the 2022 Women’s History Month special observance program themed “Providing Healing, Promoting Hope”. This year’s program featured remarks from U.S. Department of Energy leaders and personal stories from employees.

  • Shalanda H. Baker, Secretarial Advisor on Equity and Deputy Director for Energy Justice, Office of Economic Impact and Diversity
  • Jennifer C. Hoynak, Director, Professional Opportunities for Women at Energy Realized (POWER) Employee Resource Group
  • Dr. Kate Marvel, Research Scientist, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Goddard Institute for Space Studies and Columbia University, provided keynote remarks giving insight to her work on addressing climate and energy challenges and the hope she has for a better tomorrow.

The feature segment of the observance titled “Employee Profiles” was moderated by Paloma Richard, Executive Secretariat, POWER Employee Resource Group, who presented (4) Department of Energy employees to share personal stories and their experiences being a Woman in Federal service.

  • Dr. Beatriz Cuartas, Acting MSIPP Federal Director and Acting NGFP Federal Program Manager, National Nuclear Security Administration
  • Patricia Zarate, Deputy Director, Office of Civil Rights and Diversity, provided closing remarks for the Women’s History Month program.
