Lynn Schug joined the United State Department of Energy (DOE) as Deputy Chief Information Officer for Enterprise Operations and Shared Services in March of 2021.

Ms. Schug is responsible for the operational management and oversight of essential and mission-critical cyber and enterprise information resources management services. She provides executive oversight and technical management of IT infrastructure and oversees the efficient and effective lifecycle management of enterprise information resources services and solutions, while ensuring value in transforming, re-engineering, and supporting IT mission operations and service delivery. Ms. Schug has a variety of experience in IT security, enterprise operations, management, and communications, and has distinguished herself as a results-based IT senior leader whose superior support enables the mission goals and Secretarial priorities of the OCIO.

Ms. Schug brings her exemplary past experiences serving at both the state and federal level. Prior to joining DOE, she served as Executive Director for Command, Control, Communications, and Cyber Systems (C4S) and Deputy Chief Information Officer for U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) at the Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. She provided oversight of the Joint Deployment and Distribution Architecture to guarantee mission assurance through resilience, critical command, control, communications, and cyber systems for USTRANSCOM and its five component commands.

Ms. Schug began her technology career with the Department of Criminal Justice Information Systems for the Commonwealth of Virginia before transitioning to federal service. In her first assignment, she provided information technology and resource management expertise to the Bureau of Naval Personnel with a focus on criminal justice systems. Ms. Schug then relocated with the Marine Corps and served as a base communications officer, followed by a tour as the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for Installation Security, Safety, Anti-terrorism and Force Protection. She returned to Washington, DC to serve as a senior program manager for the Department of Justice and a senior resource programmer in the Pentagon for the Chief of Naval Operations.

In 2003, Ms. Schug transitioned to Norfolk, VA, to serve as the Deputy Chief Information Officer for the United States Joint Forces Command, the Deputy for Plans and Policy, Naval Network Warfare Command, the N6/CIO for Navy Cyber Forces Command, and the Director C4S and Chief Information Officer for the U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command. Ms. Schug was responsible for delivering and sustaining secure capabilities for a global logistics force in the maritime domain.

Ms. Schug holds a Bachelor of Science in Administration of Justice and Public Safety and a Masters of Public Administration from the Virginia Commonwealth University. She also holds a Master of Science in Information Resource Management from Marymount University and earned her CIO certificate from the National Defense University.
