The Department of Energy’s Loan Program Office is pleased to announce the launch of its new online application portal: will provide easier access to the Department’s open solicitations for loan guarantees while creating a simpler, faster process for applicants. Rather than submitting hundreds of pages of printed materials, applicants can now quickly upload documents online in a standard format and receive instantaneous feedback, reducing the time it takes to fill out -- as well as review -- the application.

“The new online application portal is a significant improvement from the previous process,” said Jonathan Silver, DOE’s Loan Program Executive Director. “Not only does this new tool make the loan guarantee solicitation process easier to navigate, the portal also demonstrates our commitment to continuously accelerate important clean energy investments that create jobs, support private markets and transform the way we use and produce energy.”

While the Department encourages all loan guarantee applicants to reduce paper consumption and expedite the process through use of the online portal, applicants to any previously issued open solicitations can still apply for loan guarantees via Express Mail. Note that applicants who have already submitted Part I applications and are invited to submit Part II applications should do so by sending their application via Express Mail.

Benefits of using the online application include:

  • Personalization: get help navigating the application process and receive suggestions of applicable solicitations based on the information you supply.
  • Instant guidance: find tips that might increase the likelihood of your application(s) continuing to the next phase.
  • Security: features such as encryption algorithms and password protection ensure that only you and identified Department reviewers can access the files.

Interested parties (especially those that plan to make a submission during the current application round that ends on August 24, 2010) can find the latest solicitations and apply for a loan guarantee at:

The Department is authorized to issue loan guarantees under Title XVII of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, as amended, for clean and renewable energy projects. The Loan Programs Office administers the loan guarantee program for the Department. For more information on this program, please visit
