Mitigating Carbon Dioxide Emissions from Fossil Fuels

Eighty percent of the primary energy used worldwide is derived from fossil fuels.  DOE is currently supporting a range of projects to accelerate development and deployment of carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) technology that will be able to mitigate emissions from coal and other fossil fuel sources.  The chart below displays global carbon emissions from fossil fuels, and allows us to understand the magnitude of different mitigation "wedges."
