Senior DOE Official to Make Funding Announcement at Fermilab
 
WASHINGTON, DC – On Wednesday, July 2, 2008, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Acting Deputy Secretary Jeffrey Kupfer will deliver remarks during an “all-hands” meeting at DOE’s Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab).  Acting Deputy Secretary Kupfer is expected to highlight the importance of continued federal funding for basic scientific research to keep America at the forefront of innovation and lay the foundation for cutting-edge solutions to meet our nation’s pressing energy challenges.  During the meeting, it is expected to be announced that involuntary layoffs will be suspended at Fermilab as the result of the 2008 Supplemental Appropriations Act, signed into law by President Bush on Monday, which provides $62.5 million in additional funding for DOE’s Office of Science.
